Zane Cree Carl Petersen

Zane Cree Carl Petersen, 32, of Redwood, NY and Sackets Harbor, NY, died on the evening of Tuesday, February 27th.

Born April 27, 1991, the son of Ray and Laurie Lind Petersen of Redwood and Sackets Harbor, he was a summa cum laude 2017 graduate and member of Phi Theta Kappa at Jefferson Community College, and a psychology major at Harpur College at Binghamton University. He was only a few credits short of graduation.

He graduated from Alexandria Central School in 2009. He had been employed at Dock of the Bay and Riveredge Resort in Alexandria Bay, NY, as well as Mirabito in Watertown, NY. He also worked as a caregiver for his grandmother at home for four years. In addition, he was a volunteer for the Binghamton University Nature Preserve and the Indian River Lakes Conservancy in Redwood, NY.

Surviving are his parents; sister Erin (Jason) Begel of Morristown, NY, and brothers Jeremy DiCaprio of Sandy Creek, NY, and Joel DiCaprio and fiancé Anna Richardson of Lake Placid, NY. His brother Luke Petersen died in 2007. Surviving also are his grandmother Iris Lind, Syracuse NY, and nephews Aidan, Isaac, Emory, and Leo Begel, aunts and uncles Alice Booth, Patricia Chatman, Carole Petersen, and George Petersen of Mexico, NY; Bill Petersen of Pulaski, NY; and Louie Petersen of Camano Island, WA. His twelve first cousins are Alesa (deceased), Chris, Ryan, Nikki, Jason, Julee, Frances, Lizzie, Lewis, Stephanie, Stacey, and Tom.

A film buff and music collector, Zane also enjoyed hiking and online research. Special friends were Jeremy Moench of Evansville, IN; Alex Hofferberth of Albany, NY; Ross Robinson of Chicago, IL; Jake Alden of Plattsburgh, NY; and Tony Gebolys of Sackets Harbor, NY. Matt Wozniak of Browns Corners, NY and Zack Avenengo of Jersey City, NJ were among several other special friends.

On Saturday, March 16, 2024, calling hours will be held at Costello Funeral Home in Alexandria Bay, NY from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. A memorial service will begin at 3 pm.
