Winifred L. Coombs

December 15, 2016 Winifred L. Coombs, 95, longtime resident of Alexandria Bay, passed away early Thursday morning in the SNF at Carthage  Area Hospital, where she had resided since 2010. She was born December 30, 1920 in Wawarsing, NY, daughter of William and Jennie Terwilliger LaMont. She graduated from Kerhonkson High School and attended business school in Kingston, NY. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Pine Tree Point Resort in Alexandria Bay. She married William Coombs on October 12, 1940. Mr. Coombs passed away on October 26, 1998. Winnie played piano and was an avid lover of music. She also enjoyed NASCAR and was a huge Jeff Gordon fan. She is survived by two daughters, Kathy DePuy and Carol Coombs, both of Alexandria Bay; two grandchildren, Heather Parrow and her husband Jarrett of Plessis, NY and Robert DePuy and his wife Dionne of Marathon NY; and eight great-grandchildren.  A sister, Frances Pomeroy, predeceased her.
