Cape Vincent, NY – Sandra L. “Sandy” Docteur, 70, Rt. 12E, passed away Wednesday morning at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, where she had been a patient since October 18
th
.
She was born November 29, 1945 in Blue Island, Illinois, daughter of Victor and June Putney Lake. She graduated from Watertown High School, attended American University in Washington, DC, and graduated from SUNY Potsdam, with her bachelor’s degree. She married Lee F. Docteur on April 24, 1971, in Watertown.
Sandy worked as a reporter for the Watertown Daily Times as a young woman. She was a teacher for the Hilton Central School for most of her career. The couple lived in Hilton, NY for during their working years. After retirement, they moved back to Cape Vincent.
Sandy enjoyed reading and was a lover of many different kinds of music.
Besides her husband Lee, she is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Christina and John Deitz, Liverpool, NY and Mickey and Christopher Rivers, Germantown, TN, a brother and his wife, David and Dodie Lake, Wiscasset, ME, and 5 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Saturday, November 5
th
at 11 am, at the United Church of Cape Vincent, with Pastor Nancy J. Stanley, officiating.
