Royce E. Newberry

March 28, 2016 Alexandria Bay, NY – Royce E. Newberry, 75, of Swan Hollow Road, passed away Monday afternoon in the ER at River Hospital, after being stricken at home. He was born May 10, 1940 at the family home on Swan Hollow Road, son of Clark and Jessie Matthews Newberry. He graduated from Alexandria Central High School in 1958. Royce married Geraldine Carr on September 14, 1963 in East Syracuse. He was owner of Royce Newberry Construction, Alexandria Bay. He was a member of the Alexandria Bay Masonic Lodge, was an avid hunter, trapper and outdoorsman, and a committed Purple Ghost sports supporter, being named “sports fan of the year”. The ACS yearbook was dedicated to him in 2011. He is survived by his wife Gerri, two sons, Blaine and his wife Wendy, and Brad, all of Alexandria Bay, a sister, Mrs. Jack (Nancy) Martin, North Syracuse, and three grandchildren, Michelle, Derek, and Troy; and two step-grandchildren, Kacy and Stacy Baum. A sister, Joyce Rudnick, predeceased him. Calling hours will be Wednesday, March 30 ^th , from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Costello Funeral Home. The funeral will be Thursday, March 31 ^st at 11am at the Alexandria Bay United Methodist Church, with Pastor Freddie Webb, officiating. Burial will be in Barnes Settlement Cemetery. A luncheon reception will follow cemetery services at the Alexandria Bay Fire Hall. Memorial donations may be made to the Alexandria Bay Fire Department or the Alexandria Bay United Methodist Church.
