PLESSIS, NY – Robert C. Kernehan, 84, of NYS Rt. 26, passed away Thursday morning at his home. He had been under the care of his loving family and Hospice of Jefferson County. He was born October 25, 1931 in Alexandria Bay, NY, son of G. Wilson and DeEtta Simpson Kernehan. He graduated from Alexandria Bay High School. He proudly served as a U.S. Marine in Korea. He married Caroline Pfister on October 23, 1954, at St. Cyril’s Church, in Alexandria Bay. Robert worked for many years as a general mechanic for New York State Parks and Recreation, based in Alexandria Bay, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Alexandria Bay American Legion and the Alexandria Bay Fire Department. Besides his wife Caroline, he is survived by a son and his wife, Robert C. and Kelly, Alexandria Bay, a daughter and her companion, Kimberly A. Kernehan and Philip Cortese, Massena, NY, a brother and his wife, G. William and Gloria Kernehan, Alexandria Bay, 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. A son, David W. Kernehan and a sister, Barbara Ann VanTassel predeceased him. Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 6th, from 7-9 pm, at the Costello Funeral Home, Alexandria Bay. A memorial service will be Thursday July 7th, at 11 am at the funeral home with Fr. Douglas Comstock, officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Alexandria Bay American Legion, the Alexandria Bay Fire Department, or River Hospital.
