Mary E. Quencer

Mary Quencer, 85, passed away at her home on Rockwell Street on Saturday evening under the care of hospice, with her family by her side.

Mary was born on July 12, 1939, in Syracuse, NY, the daughter of Frank and Marguerita Jeanes Snyder. She graduated from Sandy Creek Central High School in 1957 and from the House of the Good Samaritan School of Nursing, Watertown, NY, in 1960.

Mary worked for several years at the House of the Good Samaritan. She spent the next 18 years working at E.J. Noble Hospital in Alexandria Bay, from 1968 to 1986, finishing her career as the Director of Nursing there.

She married Marvin “Mike” Quencer on October 21, 1961 in Sandy Creek, NY. Mr. Quencer passed away on June 17, 2018.

Mary was a member of the Alexandria Bay United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Mary Nunn Nurses Club.

She is survived by her daughter Heather (Mark) Nemier, Ashburn, VA; her son Brett (Lisa) Quencer, Midland, MI; her four grandchildren, Alyssa (Jimmy) Stiving, Chase (Jessica) Quencer, Jacob and Lucas Nemier, and one great-grandchild, Amelia Stiving. Besides, her husband, Mike, she was predeceased by her brother, Alan Snyder.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 13th from 4-7 pm at Costello Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at the Alexandria Bay United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 14th at 1:00 pm with Rev. Marc Thomas officiating. A private burial will take place at Barnes Settlement Cemetery.
