Margaret E. Pond, 86, lifelong resident of Cape Vincent, passed away at Samaritan Medical Center on Monday, August 5th after a sudden illness.
She was born on December 6, 1937, in the town of Alexandria, NY, the daughter of Leon and Madeline Orvis Fisher. She graduated from Cape Vincent High School in 1956.
Margaret married the love of her life, Frederick Pond, in 1957 in North Carolina. Fred passed away on June 6, 2004.
She co-owned and operated Pond’s Marina for over 40 years. In addition, Margaret worked for several years during the 1970’s at Cape Vincent Elementary School in the cafeteria.
Margaret enjoyed gardening, as well as feeding and watching the birds at her birdfeeder. Most of all, spending time with her beloved family brought her the greatest joy.
She is survived by her sons, Mark (Barbara) Pond, St. Petersburg, FL, and William (Amy) Pond, Cape Vincent, NY; daughters, Betsy (Kevin) Austin, Odessa, NY and Lori (Kelly) Cain, Odessa, NY; and daughter-in-law, Su Pond, Chiefland, Fl; 15 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Fred, she was predeceased by her two sons Michael and Matthew, and siblings Hubert, Ben & Bob Fisher, and Jeanne McCullough.
A private burial will be held at the family’s convenience at the Pond Family Cemetery. A celebration of Life event is being planned for September 21, 2024, at Pond’s Marina starting at 11:00 am.
