LeRoy “Roy” G. Stiefel, 77, Shoulette Road, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday morning.
He was born June 12,1947 in Oneonta, NY, son of Donald and Margaret Jordan Stiefel. He graduated from Oneonta High School and attended SUNY Oneonta. Roy also served in the United States Air Force from 1965-1969.
He married Bett Greene on May 23, 1970, in Oneonta, NY.
Roy worked as an investigator for the New York State Department of Labor, Binghamton, retiring in 2002. He was a Lion’s Club member and recipient of the Melvin Jones Award.
After retirement Roy and Bett moved to Zephyrhills, Florida, where Roy made many friends and enjoyed spending his days playing golf. In 2023, they moved back to New York, making their home in Redwood near their son Michael and his family. Roy loved “The River” and enjoyed boating and was an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed woodworking and spending time outdoors.
Roy was a father, grandfather, great grandfather and a loving husband of 54 years.
Besides his wife Bett, he is survived by two sons, Michael (Amy) Stiefel, Redwood, and LeRoy (Christine) Stiefel, Williamsburg, VA, three sisters, Margaret Garwatoski, Canton, GA, Robin (Steve) Hughes, Gilbertsville, NY, and Donna (Lee) Young, West Laurens, NY, four grandsons and one great grandson.
A communion service will be held Saturday, February 15th at 1:00pm, at St. James Episcopal Church in Oneonta, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Roy’s name to the Alexandria Central School Trap Team, C/O Thousand Islands Sportsman Club, PO Box 164, Redwood, NY 13679.
