Kay J. Coon, lifelong resident of Alexandria Bay, passed away on Saturday December 7th at Samaritan Medical Center.
Kay was born in Alexandria Bay on February 11, 1942, the daughter of Harold and Marion Newberry. She graduated from Alexandria Central School.
Kay married John Coon on February 14, 1962. Mr. Coon predeceased her on October 9, 1992. She worked for many years at Hudson’s Diner in Redwood, NY, as well as the Riveredge Pancake House and at Alexandria Central School in the cafeteria and office.
She was a member of the Alexandria Bay American Legion. She enjoyed socializing with family and friends.
Kay is survived by her son Greg (Martha) Coon, Redwood, and daughter Lisa (Mike) Purdy, Watertown; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her brother Charles Newberry.
Kay's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, aides, and staff at Samaritan Summit Village who provided years of exceptional care with love and laughter. Additionally, they want to thank the doctors and nurses at Samaritan Medical Center for their compassionate care.
A private graveside service will be held at Barnes Settlement Cemetery in the spring of 2025.
