Juliette "Judy" Ferguson

Juliette A. “Judy” Ferguson, 105, passed away Wednesday evening, December 25th, at River Hospital, in Alexandria Bay.

She was born January 15, 1919, in Winchester, Ontario, daughter of Alfred J. and Eliza Marion Amyot. She moved to Hammond, NY in 1929 and was educated in Hammond schools.

She married Harold V. Ferguson on April 23, 1946, at St. Francis Xavier Church, in Redwood, NY. Mr. Ferguson died December 23, 1993.

During WWII, she moved to Detroit, MI and was employed as a “Rosie the Riveter” for the Willow Run Bomber Plant, producing 62 bombers per day for the Army Air Force. She finished her employment at the plant as an inspector. Following the war, she returned to Redwood, where she worked for the Redwood Hotel and later for Stubby’s Restaurant. She and her husband owned and operated Ferguson’s Liquor Store closing in 1974 and in 1978 she opened Judy’s Ice Cream Stand.

Judy was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church and active in its Alter and Rosary Society. She enjoyed traveling, going to the casino, making specialty cakes, and baking pies for local parish priests.

She is survived by one daughter, Clover (Wes) Gleason, Redwood, grandchildren, Scott, Redwood, Tina (Scott) Jaques, Inverness, FL, Tammy (Micheal) Waterworth, Inverness, FL, four great grandchildren and three great-great Grandchildren. She is also survived by a niece, Kathleen Ferguson, Denver, Co, whom she raised, and a sister, Constance “Connie” Panunzio, Hammond, NY and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by six brothers, Albert, George, Louis, Rosair, Alex and Paul and five sisters, Frediline, Jeanette, Minnie, Aline and Clara.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 2nd, from 4-7pm at the Costello Funeral Home, Alexandria Bay. A funeral mass will be Friday January 3rd, at 11 am at St. Francis Xavier Church, Redwood. Spring burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
