John B. Diabo, 77, of Swan Hollow Road, Alexandria Bay passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 at Upstate University Hospital after a brief illness.
John was born on February 9, 1940 in Clayton, NY, the son of Baptiste J. and Lillian Sulier Diabo. He was educated at Grindstone Island schools. He married Kay side on June 17. She passed away July 26, 1998. As a young man, John worked for the Big M grocery store. He then went to work as Marina Manager for the New York State Parks at Keewaydin State Park, Alexandria Bay. He retired in 2016 after 39 years of employment at the park. He was a former Clayton Lions Club Member.
John is survived by his sons, Doug Side, Redwood, and Eugene Side, Alexandria Bay; his daughter Cheryl Hunter, Hammond; brothers Ed Diabo, Florida, Larry Diabo, Watertown, and James Diabo, LaFargeville; sisters, Eva Conant, Florida, Marie “Dee” Heyman, Clayton, and Shirley Fisher, Clayton; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Two sisters, Louise Calhoun and Carol Bush, predeceased him.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 16
th
from 2-4 pm at Costello Funeral Home, Alexandria Bay. Graveside services at Highland Park Cemetery, Alexandria Bay, will be private and at the convenience of the family.
