Joanne M. Fitch

Joanne M. Fitch, 82, passed away on Tuesday morning, January 7th.

She was born August 17, 1942, in Malone, NY, daughter of Wayne and Marion Travers Hurteau. She graduated from Indian River High School. A marriage to Larry Neville ended in divorce.

She later married Lee Fitch on November 24, 1990. Mr. Fitch passed away on January 14, 2013.

Joanne worked for over twenty years as a tour guide at Boldt Castle. In her earlier years she provided day care for many families in the Theresa area and worked as a teacher’s aide at Theresa Elementary School.

She enjoyed reading, animals, doing Diamond Dotz crafts and listening to bluegrass music. She was a member of St. Cyril’s Church, the Boomer Movers and Alley Cat Rescue.

She is survived by three daughters, Lisa (John) Slate and Lisa’s companion, Matthew Toutant, Alexandria Bay, Kim (Ernie) Emmi, Palmer, AK and Katherine (Daniel) Hobart, Ilion, NY, a son, Larry (Amy Hull) Neville, Jr., Philadelphia, NY, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren, two brothers, Herbert and Thomas Hurteau and three sisters, Frances Jewett, Nancy Neuroth and Betty Sech.

Calling hours will be held Friday, January 10th, from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Costello Funeral Home, Alexandria Bay. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, January 11th, at 10 am at St. Cyril’s Church, Alexandria Bay. Burial will follow at Barnes Settlement Cemetery. A celebration of life reception will follow cemetery services at the Alexandria Bay Fire Hall.
