Hannah M. Chaltain, 94, St. Lawrence Ave, Alexandria Bay, passed away at her home early Thursday morning, with her loving family by her side, under the care of Hospice.
Hannah was born on September 7, 1922, the daughter of John and Florence Kelly Drews. She graduated from State College of Westchester, PA. . She married Douglas Chaltain on December 28, 1953. He passed away August 7, 1974.
Hannah was a first grade teacher at Alexandria Central for 35 years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Alexandria Bay Senior Citizens, and St. Cyril’s Church Choir. She travelled extensively and enjoyed playing cards, quilting, sewing and especially tap dancing, which she continued to do until she was 90 years old.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandy Chaltain, Alexandria Bay; Penny Diaz, Thiells, NY; and Mrs. Kevin (Cindy) Osgood, Chittenango, NY; two sons, Douglas Chaltain (his companion Wanda Matthews), Alexandria Bay; and William (Susan) Chaltain, Moravia, NY; fourteen grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son J. Frederick (May 23, 1988) and brothers, J. William and J. Edward Drews.
Calling hours will be held at Costello Funeral Home, Alexandria Bay, on Monday, May 15
th
from 4-7 pm. A funeral service will be held at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church in Alexandria Bay on Tuesday, May 16th at 10 am.
Memorial contributions may be made in Hannah’s name to Hospice of Jefferson County or the American Cancer Society.
