LAURA COLES

Goose Bay, NY

March 24, 2018

Laura Irene Coles, 87, of Goose Bay passed away peacefully at home under the care of her daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and  Gary Maloy, and Hospice of Jefferson County.

Laura was born on December 10, 1930, in Norwich, NY, the daughter of Scott Eljy and Mildred Irene Card Rogers.   She graduated from Otselic Central High School in 1949.

In April of 1950 Laura married William Edward Coles in Norwich, NY The family moved to Goose Bay, Redwood, NY in 1968. Mr. Coles passed away in September 1992.

Laura worked as an office manager/bookkeeper for Thousand Islands Medical Group form 1969-1994 (receiving her CMA degree in 1979). From 1994 until 2009 she held sundry secretarial/clerical positions for Nationwide Insurance and local offices. Continue reading →

Lillian S. Williams

March 20, 2018

Alexandria Bay — Lillian S. Williams, 96, passed away early Tuesday morning at St. Joseph’s Home in Ogdensburg, where she had been a patient since November of 2017.

Lillian was born on October 13, 1921 in Auburn, Maine, the daughter of Harry and Rose Yerkes Gurwitz. She graduated from OFA in Ogdensburg, NY.  She married James A. Williams on October 8, 1946 in Ogdensburg, NY.  Mr. Williams passed away in June of 1977.

Lillian worked for many years as an Operator for New York Telephone in Ogdensburg and then Alexandria Bay. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing BINGO. Continue reading →

Frederick “Mark” Wolfe

Redwood, NY

March 12, 2018

A memorial gathering for Frederick “Mark” Wolfe, 68, will be held Saturday, March 24th, at 2pm, at the Reformed Church of the Thousand Isles, Alexandria Bay.

 

Frederick“Mark Wolfe, 68, of Simpson Road, Redwood, NY passed away at his home under the care of his family, friends, and Hospice.

 

Mark was born on April 17th, 1949 in Penfield, NY, the son of Frederick J. Wolfe and Eleanor K. Killian Wolfe.

Mark attended Penfield High School, Finger Lakes Community College where he studied Conservation Sciences and Brockport State University where his concentration was English Literature.

Mark worked at the Department of Transportation for the Town of Alexandria before retirement.  Mark was a professional downhill skier and worked in Research and Development for several ski companies while also owning his own sporting goods store in Rochester.  Mark also was partnered with good friends owning contracting businesses.  Continue reading →

Larry G. Kernehan

March 5th, 2018

Lawrence G. Kernehan, 67, lifetime resident of Alexandria Bay, died Monday March 5th at St. Camillus Nursing Home, Syracuse, where he had resided since 2016.

Lawrence “Larry” was born in Alexandria Bay on April 24th, 1950 the son of Lawrence and Catherine M. Petrie Kernehan. He graduated from Alexandria Bay High School and worked his whole life as a St. Lawrence River Fishing Guide.  He also renovated boats in the “off-season”.

Larry married Candice Aubertine on May 19th, 1973 in Sackets Harbor.  Candi passed away January 28th, 2009.

He was a member of the Alexandria Bay Volunteer Fire Department, Twilight Golf League, Ducks Unlimited, Alexandria Bay Fishing Guides Association, and enjoyed bowling.

Larry is survived by two sons, Gregory Kernehan, North Augusta, SC, and Curtis Kernehan, Watertown, NY; a granddaughter, Laila Evelyn Kernehan; two brothers-in-law and his father-in-law.  Many nieces, nephews and cousins survive.

Calling hours will be held at Costello Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 14th from 2-4 and 7-9. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, March 15th at 11:00 am with Fr. Doug Comstock officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alexandria Bay Volunteer Fire Department, 110 Walton St., Alexandria Bay, NY 13607

Atheda M. Calhoun

March 5, 2018

Atheda M. Calhoun, 78, lifetime resident of Alexandria Bay, died Monday, March 5th at Samaritan Summit Village where she had resided since the fall of 2015.

Atheda was born in Alexandria Bay on February 27th 1940, the daughter of Kenneth and Ruby Savage Davis.  She graduated from Alexandria Bay High School.  She worked for many years as a cashier at Small’s Gas Station on Wellesley Island.

A marriage to Rhoderick Calhoun ended in divorce.

She was an avid bowler and enjoyed reading, knitting and watching her grandchildren play sports.

Atheda is survived by two sons, Matthew Calhoun, Theresa, NY, and Mark (Rosie) Calhoun, Alexandria Bay; two daughters, Cindy Pledger, Alexandria Bay, and Leanne (David) Piddock, Monroe, NC; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; her brother  Leon (Barb) Davis; and her sister Sue (Karl) Felder, Oklahoma.  She is pre-deceased by her brothers Kermit, Keith, and Erick Davis, and her sister Ferne Bogenschutz.

Per Atheda’s wishes, there will be no services.
