Marguerite “Peggy” Ott

Collins Landing, NY

Marguerite N. “Peggy” Ott, 89, long time summer resident of Collins Landing, NY, passed away Thursday September 22nd, at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg where she had been a patient since September 6, 2016.

Peggy was born in Buffalo, NY on December 10, 1926.  She graduated from Woodlawn High School in Blasdell, NY. She married George F. “Bud” Ott on August 16, 1947 in Woodlawn, NY. They owned a seasonal rental business together, the “Ott Spot” in Collins Landing. She was also a homemaker. She enjoyed the St. Lawrence River and was an avid gardener. Bud passed away on August 20, 2005.

Peggy is survived by her sons, John F. Ott, Syracuse, and William G. (Barbara) Ott, Barto, PA, two daughters, Donna Ramzy, Buffalo, NY, and Mrs. James (Patricia) Orzech, West Seneca, NY, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

There will be no calling hours or funeral services.  Arrangements are with Costello Funeral Service, Alexandria Bay.

Betty J. Truesdell

Betty Jtruesdell-betty. Truesdell, 88, of St. Lawrence Park Rd, Alexandria Bay died Thursday morning at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg.

Betty was born on September 27, 1927 in Jamestown, NY, the daughter of Wesson and Emma Jacobson Paplow.  She graduated from Cassadaga Valley Central School in Cassadaga, NY.

She married Joseph G. Truesdell in Jamestown, NY on November 18, 1950. He passed away on December 23, 2009.

Betty worked as the Head of Circulation for the Jamestown Port Journal, was a co-owner of Joe’s Texaco Gas Station in Alexandria Bay and was a Hostess for many years at Bonnie Castle Resort and Pine Tree Resort.  She was a member of the Clayton Bowling League, the Reformed Church of the 1000 Isles, and the Alexandria Bay Senior Citizens.

Betty is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Gayle Truesdell, and her daughter JoLeta Gruzesky, all of Alexandria Bay, three grandchildren, Christopher and Bobby Joe Williams and Dustin Truesdell. Betty had four nieces and one nephew.  A sister, Margie Olmstead, predeceased her.

Calling hours will be held at Costello Funeral Home, Alexandria Bay, from 2-4 and 7-9 on Monday, September 26th.  The funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday at Costello Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff McIlrath officiating. Burial will follow at Barnes Settlement Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s name to the Reformed Church of the 1000 Isles or the Alexandria Bay Fire Department.

 

 

Glenn D. Hudon

Alexandriglenn-hudona Bay – Glenn D. Hudon, 80, passed away Saturday morning at the Samaritan Keep Home in Watertown, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 25, 1936 in Canton, Connecticut, son of Ernest and Gladys Girard Hudon.  After graduating high school, Glenn moved to Alexandria Bay to work at Adventure Town. He also took blacksmithing at Cornell University. He was a certified blacksmith, loved Appaloosa horses, and was involved with many horse lovers in the area.

He married Susan Edick on September 21, 1956 in Alexandria Bay. His death came 4 days prior to their 60th wedding anniversary. Continue reading →

Betty Root

Betty Virginia Root, 92, of Anthony Street, Alexandria Bay, peacefully passed away Wednesday at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg surrounded by her children.

Betty was born on August 6th, 1924 in Alexandria Bay, the daughter of Craig and Leona Schryver Rupert. She attended schools in Alexandria Bay and Syracuse. She married Grant Rogers in September of 1942, was a homemaker, and had three children, Douglas, Rupert and Teresa. Mr. Rogers passed away in July of 1957. She married Gerald Root in 1964 and he passed away in 1992.

Betty enjoyed spending time at the island in Goose Bay, boating, swimming, and hunting with family and friends. She also enjoyed golfing, snowmobiling, sewing, and gardening. She was one of the first to join the Alex Bay Ladies Golf League when it started and kept busy with Alex Bay Youth Center work. She was a Cub Scout den mother for years and was active in the Rebecca Lodge and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Betty is survived by her children, Grant Douglas Rogers, Alexandria Bay, Rupert “Snooker” Rogers, Plessis, and Mrs. Richard (Terry) Hartman, Alexandria Bay, five grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at Highland Park Cemetery in Alexandria Bay on Tuesday September 13th at 1:00 pm.

Memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s name to the Alexandria Bay Volunteer Fire Department.

Jean S. Elk Arquiett

imageALEXANDRIA BAY, N.Y. —

Jean S. Elk Arquiett, 42, a native of Alexandria Bay, passed away, Thursday, Sept. 1, at Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, after having been admitted on Sunday.

She was born May 14, 1974, in Watertown, NY. She graduated from Alexandria Central High School in 1992, and then from SUNY Potsdam in 1996, with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature.

She went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1998 till 2000, where she worked in digital telecommunications. While serving her country, she attended army tech school in Gordon, GA, where she finished second in her class.

She married Christopher Arquiett on June 6, 1999, in Alexandria Bay.

Besides her husband, Chris, she is survived by two sons, Cassidy (15) and Jacob (11) and her daughter Chloe (13), her mother, Fay Elk, Alexandria Bay, her father, Theodore Elk, Hammond, her brother and his wife, George and Jayme Elk, Ithaca, and her grandmother, Jean Elk, Alexandria Bay.

She was predeceased by her sister Laura Side, grandfather, Glenn Elk, and her grandparents, Ivan and Marjorie Salisbury.

Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Costello Funeral Home, Alexandria Bay. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1pm at the Alexandria Bay United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Freddie Webb officiating.
