Alexandria Bay, NY – Gregory G. VanBrocklin, 65, of State Route 26, passed away early Sunday morning at his home. He had been under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
He was born June 20, 1950 in Alexandria Bay, son of Clifford and Isabelle Pierce
VanBrocklin. He graduated from Alexandria Central High School in 1968.
He married Shelia Slate on March 15, 1969 in Fineview, NY.
Greg worked for the Town of Alexandria for many years, retiring as Deputy Highway Superintendant. He also owned and operated Greg’s Small Engines, for 30 years.
He was a member of the Alexandria Bay Fire Department for over 40 years, being named “Fireman of the Year”, in 1996. He served as chief for 4 years, assistant chief for 5 years, and line officer for several more. He was a member of the Alexandria Bay Masonic Lodge.
Besides his wife Shelia, he is survived by two sons, David and his wife Cheryl, and Jeffery, of Alexandria Bay, and a daughter and her husband, Mrs. Steven (Lori) Wentzel, of Dekalb Junction, NY, two sisters, Mrs. Louis (Joanne) Amato, Theresa, NY and Shirley Wimmer, of Redwood, NY, 10 grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Noel and Garth VanBrocklin.
A celebration of life reception will be held Saturday, April 30th, from 1-4 pm at the Alexandria Bay Fire Hall.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alexandria Bay Fire Department or Hospice of Jefferson County.
